Somali
The Somali is essentially a longhaired Abyssinian — sharing the same ticked coat, large ears and athletic build, but with a gorgeous, medium-length, fox-like coat and a dramatically plumed tail. They are energetic, curious and playful — always busy, always exploring. Somalis are affectionate and social, enjoying the company of both humans and other cats.

History
The Somali appeared as a longhaired variant in Abyssinian litters for many years before breeders decided to develop the trait intentionally. The breed was formally developed in North America and Australia in the 1960s and 1970s. The name "Somali" was chosen as Somalia borders Ethiopia (formerly Abyssinia), the homeland of the parent breed.
Care & Health
Monitor for PRA and kidney disease. Dental care is important as they can be prone to tooth resorption.
