Ocicat breed — wild-spotted domestic cat, trained like a dog, energetic

Ocicat

Also known as: Oci

The Ocicat looks wild but is entirely domesticated — a magnificent spotted cat that resembles a small ocelot. Athletic, muscular and confident, the Ocicat is remarkably dog-like in personality: they play fetch, walk on a leash, come when called and enjoy meeting strangers. Despite their exotic appearance, they are gentle, sociable family cats.

History

The Ocicat was created accidentally in 1964 when American breeder Virginia Daly was attempting to create an Abyssinian-pointed Siamese. The resulting litter contained a spotted kitten that looked like a wild ocelot — named "Tonga" and dubbed an "Ocicat" by Daly's daughter. The breed was developed further and recognised by the Cat Fanciers Association in 1966.
