History
Worshipped by the noble class of ancient Egypt, this breed was depicted in art from around 1550 BC. Hieroglyphs portray them as domestic cats around 2200 BC. They are believed to be distant relatives of the African Wild Cat. The modern breed was saved from near-extinction by an exiled Russian princess, Natalie Troubetzkoy, who brought cats from Egypt to Italy and eventually to the United States in 1956.
Care & Health
Teeth, liver and kidney function should be checked along with general health during adult life. There are no breed-specific health conditions. The Egyptian Mau is sensitive to cold temperatures — provide warm sleeping spots. Their active nature requires regular play sessions to prevent boredom.
