About

The British Shorthair is the classic teddy-bear cat — round face, plush coat, and a calm, undemanding personality. One of the oldest and most popular breeds in the world, they are devoted companions who love their humans but aren't overly clingy. Perfect for families, singles and seniors alike.

History

The British Shorthair is descended from cats brought to Britain by the Romans, later crossed with Persians to create the distinctive plush coat. Harrison Weir, founder of the first cat show, championed the breed in 1871. The most iconic colour — British Blue — became popular in the early 20th century.

Care & Health

HCM and PKD are the primary health concerns. Choose breeders who screen for both. Monitor weight carefully — British Shorthairs are extremely food-motivated. They are well-suited to indoor living and don't require outdoor access.
